Plymouth Event

Join us for ABB’s Innovation and Technology Day in association with  Plymouth City College and ABB’s South West Partner, APDS.

This free event will give you hands-on access to the latest in robotic and motor control innovations. You will also have the opportunity to network with like-minded businesses from the Plymouth area and meet students from the college.

This will be a day to help you look to the future; to new technologies and new talent.

    The event will be opened by Phil Davies, Principal at City College Plymouth and David Hughes, Head of Drives, Motors and Robotics Division for ABB UK


  • 10.15-11.00 – Presentation 1
    The Internet of Things by David Hughes, ABB
    A look at ABB Ability, a unified, cross-industry digital capability, from device to edge to cloud, which combines expertise and connectivity to enable you to “know more, do more, do better, together”


  • 11.00-11.45 – Break Out Session
    Hands-on demonstrations and networking – meet other businesses, students & apprentices


  • 11.45-12.30 – Presentation 2
    The Importance of Cyber Security by the Global Head of Cyber Security for ABB


  • 12.30-13.30 – Lunch


  • 13.30-14.15 – Presentation 3
    An update on the latest innovations within the world of Variable Speed Drives & Motors. Including Synchronous Reluctance Motor-drive (SynRM) packages for improved energy savings by ABB’s Andy Preston, Richard Gee and Kris England


  • 14.15-15.00 – Break Out Session
    Hands-on demonstrations and networking – meet other businesses, students & apprentices


  • 15.00–15.30 – Presentation 4
    The future is…  A look at the impact of technology on industry, including robotics and augmented reality by David Hughes and Mike Wilson from ABB


  • 15.30-16.00 – Q&A Session with all the presenters


  • 16.00-16.30 – Final networking session and opportunities for hands-on demonstrations

The break out area will include an array of the latest innovations and technologies for you to get your hands on; including Robotics, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Energy Saving Ideas, Smart Sensor and the latest Food & Beverage products, which includes the uniquely designed IP69K, a  stainless steel wash-down motor, glass blasted and made from paint-free Aluminium – ideally suited for a non-contaminated environment.
