Is your Business ESOS Compliant?

HURRY – whether you’re eligible for ESOS or not, book your FREE energy audit now
and make 2016 the year to cut your energy bills.

ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) is the EU initiative to encourage you to realise an improvement in your business profits whilst increasing your energy efficiency. It also helps you address climate change concerns and enhances your corporate reputation. In the UK ESOS is being regulated by the Environment Agency (EA).

What does the legislation require?

ESOS requires businesses to undergo an energy audit and assessment to help them pinpoint areas where they can reduce energy costs and consumption – and reduce costs.

How will it affect my business?

Businesses with over 250 employees or having an annual turnover greater than £40 million should already (by 5 December 2015) have completed an officially approved energy efficiency audit or notified the EA that it has gone someway towards completing the audit by 29 January 2016. This needs to be repeated every four years.

It is estimated that 10,000 companies fall under the new energy efficient rules.

What happens if I don’t comply?

Failure to comply can lead to fines of up to £50,000. Businesses that expect to miss the deadline must complete an online form that is available on the EA’s website.

The EA has said it will look favourably on companies that have taken serious steps towards complying with the legislation by 29 January 2016. EG evidence of booking an energy audit or collecting and analyzing relevant data.

What are the benefits to my business?

This should not just be viewed as another compliance hoop you have to jump through. The benefits to your business can be very real.

An energy audit by a qualified engineer could, according to the Carbon Trust, reduce annual energy costs by 20% through identifying energy efficiency and improved energy management.
