During a recent bearing change on a 355kW Siemens motor, our engineer Jamie Sims uncovered something you don’t see every day – an insulated bearing journal. The bearing itself was already showing early frosting, a classic indicator of circulating current issues and a sign that more serious damage was on the way. With the motor around eight years into service, these early warnings proved to be invaluable.
Further inspection revealed that the base oil had separated and pooled inside the stator, creating a messy but important reminder of how lubrication breakdown can impact motor performance. After completing full testing, installing new bearings, and carrying out precise laser alignment, the motor was safely restored to smooth, reliable operation.
