We are becoming increasingly concerned about the amount of hire drives we are finding on site as the solution to “fix” a failed drive.
In the most recent case, a Sewage Treatment Works had a 22kW Control Techniques drive which had failed over 12 months ago, and the company called out to ‘fix’ the issue installed a temporary hire drive, with the wiring leaving much to be desired.
APDS were approached to see if we could replace the failed drive with a permanent solution.
As soon as the official order was placed, we attended site with an ACQ580-01 and replaced the failed CT drive. Our expert engineer also tidied up the wiring, control cabinet and kiosk, leaving the area much tidier than it was previously left.
A hire drive can be a long term solution, for certain projects or temporary installations but it should never be used as the alternative for fixing a faulty drive as it becomes a costly overhead if the hire period is extended any longer than a few months. It is far more cost effective and efficient to fix or replace the faulty drive.
