Solar Inverter Reclamation and Refurbishment: Renewable Energy Technology and Circularity in Action

At APDS, we’re committed to supporting the renewable energy sector not only through innovative repair solutions but also by promoting circularity in our practices. Recently, we had an opportunity to put this approach into action with the repair and reclamation of several failed PVS800-104 central inverter modules—a crucial component in solar energy systems that helps keep clean energy flowing to the grid.

During a recent test and inspection, we identified several inverter modules that were failing. After diligent work by our expert technicians, we were able to repair and return several modules to full operation, extending their lifespan and allowing them to continue generating solar energy for the grid. However, a couple of the modules were deemed beyond economical repair by the end user, a common challenge in the solar industry.

Turning a Challenge into a Circular Solution

At APDS, we don’t see “beyond repair” as the end of the road. Rather than sending these modules directly to recycling, we saw an opportunity to give them new life. Our team stripped these modules down to their core shells and replaced all internal components with brand-new parts, essentially creating a new module housed within the original shell. This not only reduces waste but also conserves resources by eliminating the need for new metalwork and minimizing recycling needs.

This approach to refurbishment not only brings the modules back to life but also exemplifies the core principles of the circular economy, a model that reduces waste, conserves resources, and promotes sustainability.

Addressing the UK Support Gap for the PVS800-57 Inverter

Through conversations with our clients in the renewable energy sector, we know that support for the PVS800-57 solar inverter (initially designed by ABB and now a product of FIMER S.p.A.) has been inconsistent in the UK. With this gap in service and support, many organisations struggle to find reliable, readily available solutions for these critical components. To bridge this gap, APDS now offers fully refurbished modules from stock, ready for deployment in emergency situations. This ensures that renewable energy operations can maintain continuity, even when facing inverter failures or parts shortages.

Furthermore, any components from the original modules that couldn’t be reused were recycled in full compliance with regulations, maintaining our commitment to environmentally responsible practices.

Partnering for a Sustainable Future

If you’re working with PVS800-57 central inverters, APDS has both the spare parts and the expertise to support your operations. By choosing our refurbished modules, you’re not only getting a reliable solution but also contributing to a more sustainable energy industry.
